New China-Europe Shipping Route Reaches UK in 20 Days

Jan 19, 2026

A container ship named "Istanbul Bridge" departed from Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, traversing the Arctic Northeast Passage and arriving at Felixstowe Port in the UK in just 20 days. Compared to traditional sea routes-approximately 40 days via the Suez Canal and 50 days around the Cape of Good Hope-this new route, the Arctic Northeast Passage, crosses the Arctic Ocean, connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and is the shortest sea route between Europe and Asia, reducing transit time by 20 to 30 days. In the current complex international economic and trade environment, the diversification of shipping routes is crucial for safeguarding national economic security. The regular exploration of Arctic shipping routes, complementing traditional sea routes and China-Europe freight trains, jointly constructs a multi-path, risk-resistant, three-dimensional logistics network system. It not only provides new options for China-Europe trade but also offers Chinese foreign trade enterprises a more reliable "safety valve" and "stabilizer" in a complex and ever-changing international environment.
