Mexico To Impose Tariffs in 2026 Year

Jan 02, 2026

The Mexican Senate passed a new import and export tariff bill on the 10th, meaning that starting January 1, 2026, Mexico will impose tariffs of 5% to 50% on certain products from several Asian countries, including China. Reuters reported that although the Mexican government claims the move is intended to support domestic industries, it has been met with opposition from numerous Mexican business groups. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated on the 11th that China will closely monitor the implementation of the Mexican measures and further assess their impact.

According to the bill, Mexico will impose tariffs on goods such as automobiles, auto parts, textiles, clothing, plastics, and steel. The tariff rate for most of these goods is set at 35%.
