- Gentle Handling: The newly formed nail blanks have a finished head but a soft, un-pointed shank. They are easily scratched, bent, or deformed. The belt must cradle them securely without abrasive contact.
- High-Speed Precision: The Nail Transferring Belt must synchronize perfectly with the punch press of the nail machine. It moves in a precise, intermittent motion (start-stop) or a continuous motion that matches the machine's cycle time to receive each nail.
- Orientation and Alignment: It must maintain the correct orientation of the nails (almost always head-first) as they travel to the pointing machine, which grips them by the head.
- Heat Resistance: The nail blanks can be quite warm (though not red-hot) coming out of the former. The belt material must withstand this continuous heat without degrading.
- Durability and Grip: It must be made from a material that is highly wear-resistant to withstand constant friction from metal nails and have a surface texture that prevents nails from sliding or bouncing off.
Common Types and Materials
Nail Transferring Belt are almost always fabric-based flat belts rather than rubber or PVC. The most common materials are:
- Nomex (Aramid): A premium choice. Excellent heat resistance, high tensile strength, and outstanding durability. Used in the most demanding, high-speed applications.
- Kevlar (Aramid): Similar to Nomex, offering fantastic abrasion resistance and strength. Also a top-tier material for this application.
- Fiberglass: Impregnated with PTFE (Teflon) or other coatings. Offers good heat resistance and a very smooth, low-friction surface that prevents nail sticking.
- High-Temperature Polyester/Cotton Blends: A more economical option for lower-speed machines or where nail temperature is lower. Often coated with a friction material.
The belts are typically thin, flexible, and endless (seamless loop) to ensure smooth operation over small pulleys.
