The Multi-Stage Production Process
Wire Drawing & Flattening: Round galvanized wire is pulled through dies to reduce its gauge and then flattened through high-pressure rollers.
Wire Banding (Gluing): Multiple strands of flattened wire (often 50–100 strands) are aligned side-by-side, coated with adhesive, and dried into a single flat metal ribbon.
The T/F Forming Machine (The "Press"): This is the final stage. The flat wire band is fed into the machine, which uses a hydraulic or mechanical punch to:
Cut the band into individual pins.
Punch the head shape (forming the "T" or "F" profile).
Shear the points into sharp tips.
Critical Differences: Brad vs. Staple Machines
| Feature | Brad Pin Machine | Staple Forming Machine |
| Fastener Shape | Straight (I, T, or F shape) | U-shaped (two legs, one crown) |
| Bending Die | None (uses a cutting/heading die) | Requires a mandrel to bend wire 90° |
| Visual Finish | Designed for "invisible" finish work | Designed for high-strength clamping |
| Common Use | Molding, trim, furniture assembly | Upholstery, crates, roofing, office |
Advantages
Precision: The PLC can control the stroke depth to within fractions of a millimeter, essential for thin 18-gauge pins.
Safety: Sensors can detect if the wire band is jammed or running out, stopping the machine instantly.
Low Maintenance: Fewer moving mechanical gears and cams compared to traditional heavy presses.
