How the Machine Works

Wire Drawing & Straightening: Round wire (usually galvanized or copper-coated steel) is pulled through dies to reach the exact diameter needed. It then passes through a series of rollers to remove any bends or kinks.

Flattening: A Wire Flattening Machine uses high-pressure rollers to transform the round wire into a flat profile. This is crucial for the "crown" and "legs" of the staple to sit flush when used.

Banding & Gluing: To create the strips of staples we see in boxes, multiple wires (sometimes up to 100 or more) are aligned side-by-side. A specialized adhesive is applied, and the wires are "baked" or dried to form a continuous flat band of metal.

Forming (The Main Press): The flat band is fed into the Staple Forming Machine. A high-speed hydraulic or mechanical punch press cuts the band to the correct width and bends the edges over a mandrel to create the "U" shape.

Key Components

Pay-off Reel: Holds the large coils of raw wire.

Flattening Mill: Precision rollers made of tungsten carbide for durability.

Gluing Tank: Maintains the adhesive at the correct temperature and viscosity.

Cutting & Bending Die: The "heart" of the machine that shapes the final product; these are often interchangeable to allow one machine to produce different staple sizes.

Types of Machines

Office Staple Machines: Optimized for high-speed production of small gauge staples used in paper binding.

Heavy-Duty/Industrial Machines: Designed for thicker wire used in construction (flooring, roofing) and furniture (upholstery).

U-Nail/Fence Staple Machines: Specifically for individual, thick-gauge staples used in agriculture and timber.

Hydraulic vs. Mechanical: Modern plants prefer Hydraulic machines because they are quieter, have lower waste rates, and offer more precise control via PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems.
