Description

  • Wire Payoff & Straightening: Spools of thick, often PVC-coated or galvanized, wire are mounted on a heavy-duty creel. The wires are fed through a robust straightening system.
  • Positioning: Longitudinal wires are laid out across the machine's wide bed. The cross wires are automatically fed and placed on top at precise intervals.
  • Welding: This is the core of the Gabion Making Machine. Unlike a roll welder, a gabion machine typically uses a synchronized array of welding electrodes mounted on a crosshead.
  •

The crosshead moves into position over a set of wire intersections.

Powerful pneumatic or hydraulic clamps press down on the wires to hold them firmly in place and ensure perfect contact.

The electrodes descend, apply pressure, and a massive electrical current is discharged, creating a full fusion weld at each cross-point simultaneously.

  • Indexing: The welded section indexes forward, and the process repeats until the entire panel is complete.
  • Panel Handling: The finished welded panel is automatically cut from the wire feed and ejected. It may then be manually or automatically folded and bundled with other panels (front, back, base, and sides) to form a complete gabion kit.

Key Components of a Gabion Machine

  1. Heavy-Duty Structural Frame: Made from thick steel to resist flexing under extreme welding pressure.
  2. Powerful Welding Transformer: The heart of the machine, providing the high current (measured in kVA) required.
  3. Welding Head & Electrodes: Features multiple robust electrode tips and powerful clamping mechanisms.
  4. Precision Feeding System: Servo-driven systems that accurately measure and place both the longitudinal and cross wires.
  5. Programmable Logic Controller (PLC): The "brain" that controls all movements, timing, and welding sequences. Operators can input panel dimensions and mesh spacing.
  6. Strong Straightening Units: Essential for handling the thick, stiff wire used in gabions.

Advantages

  • Superior Strength and Consistency: Every weld is uniform and achieves full penetration, creating a panel with consistent and reliable structural integrity.
  • High Production Efficiency: Automates a very labor-intensive process, producing large panels much faster than manual welding.
  • Significant Labor Savings: Reduces the need for multiple highly skilled welders.
  • Material Efficiency: Precise control minimizes wire waste, a critical factor given the cost of thick, coated wire.
  • Improved Safety: Automates the heavy lifting and repetitive welding tasks.
